切换Our Komodo diving cruise aboard the Pinta Liveaboard was an incredible experience from start to finish. This traditional wooden phinisi boat, built in 2021, truly blended classic design with modern comfort. Measuring 30 meters long and 6 meters wide, with a GT83 superstructure, it felt spacious and incredibly well-maintained. The construction from Ironwood and Teak was evident throughout, giving it a wonderfully authentic feel.
The Pinta accommodates a maximum of 13 adults, plus up to 4 kids, spread across five selections of luxury rooms. We found the amenities to be excellent, ensuring a comfortable stay between dives. With a 5000-liter water capacity and a cruising speed of 8-10 knots, we easily navigated the vast Komodo National Park. This park, covering 1,733 km², was designated a protected area in 1980 and later became a UNESCO Biosphere and World Heritage Site – and you really get a sense of its importance and untouched beauty while you’re there. Just remember to budget for the National Park fee, which is 300,000 Rupiah per day for each day you dive on a liveaboard in Komodo.
Diving in Komodo’s Rainy Season
We specifically chose to visit during the rainy season, between December and February, for a reason: mantas! This period is known for the best chances of seeing these magnificent creatures. We weren’t disappointed, and the visibility, particularly in December and January, was excellent, often exceeding 30 meters. Our typical day involved 3-4 dives, a rhythm we quickly grew accustomed to, making the most of our chosen itinerary. The Pinta offers trips ranging from 3 nights to two weeks, so there’s plenty of flexibility depending on how much time you have.
Exploring Komodo’s Underwater Jewels
The main dive sites we explored included areas around Komodo, Rinca, Padar, and Flores islands. Each site offered something unique, but Batu Bolong stood out as a true jewel. The coral gardens there were absolutely breathtaking, teeming with an incredible diversity of fish life. It felt like diving into a vibrant, living aquarium. The experience on the Pinta Liveaboard, with its focus on comfort and access to these dive sites, made for an unforgettable Komodo adventure.
For arrangements, a specialist offering Labuan Bajo luxury tours can coordinate this end to end.
