Our Komodo diving trip aboard the Pinta Liveaboard was an absolute dream. We departed from Flores, eager to the South, North, and Central zones, and the Pinta didn’t disappoint in getting us to each stunning location efficiently.
Diving Komodo: Year-Round Wonders and Manta Magic
Komodo liveaboard trips run year-round, which is fantastic, but we opted for the high season, from April to December. The water temperatures were a blissful 26–29°C, and we enjoyed incredible visibility, often up to 30 meters. While manta rays are present year-round, the rainy season between December and February is actually considered the best time to see them, with visibility peaking in December and January at over 30 meters – something to keep in mind for a future trip! Our 7-night itinerary felt like the perfect duration to truly discover Komodo’s best dive sites, including the famous Manta Point, Batu Bolong, and Wainilu.
The diving itself was phenomenal. At Manta Alley, we witnessed seasonal feeding frenzies with dozens of mantas – an unforgettable spectacle. Batu Bolong was teeming with reef sharks, giant trevally, and impressive Napoleon wrasse. Crystal Rock treated us to vibrant schools of fusiliers and sweetlips, while Manta Point delivered on its promise, with oceanic mantas gracefully circling cleaning stations. Beyond the underwater world, our land excursions were equally captivating. We trekked to see the legendary Komodo dragons on both Komodo and Rinca islands, hiked Padar Island for those iconic panoramic views, and relaxed on the unique sands of Pink Beach, one of only seven in the world. The Pinta Liveaboard truly offered an Komodo experience.
