My Komodo diving cruise aboard the Pinta Liveaboard was an incredible experience. This traditional wooden phinisi, built in 2021, is 30 meters long and 6 meters wide, with a GT83 superstructure that really stands out. The craftsmanship is evident everywhere, constructed from beautiful Ironwood and Teak materials. With a 5000-liter water capacity, we never worried about resources, and the boat cruised comfortably at 8-10 knots, taking us smoothly between the islands.

Exploring Komodo National Park’s Underwater Wonders

The Pinta Liveaboard accommodates a maximum of 13 adults and 4 kids, spread across five selections of luxury rooms. I was really impressed with the attention to detail and comfort on board. Our itinerary focused on the main dive sites surrounding Komodo, Rinca, Padar, and Flores islands. Komodo National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere and World Heritage Site designated a protected area in 1980 and spanning 1,733 km², offers an diving experience. We typically managed 3-4 dives per day, which felt like the perfect balance, allowing us to fully explore the vibrant reefs.

Diving Komodo: Mantas and More

One of the highlights was Batu Bolong, truly a jewel for its coral gardens and abundant fish life. I had heard that the best time for seeing mantas in Komodo is during the rainy season, between December and February, and the visibility during our December trip certainly confirmed this, often exceeding 30 meters. It’s worth noting the National Park fee is 300,000 Rupiah per day for each day you dive on a liveaboard in Komodo, an important detail to factor into your planning.
