Where They Are

Two Places, Not One

Manta Point usually means Makassar Reef — three kilometres of rubble and cleaning stations in central Komodo, at 8 to 16 metres.

Manta Alley is the southern site, deeper and more exposed at 15 to 30 metres, where the current can run hard and the animals school.

What to Expect

Diving With Mantas

Makassar Reef

Central Komodo, 8–16 m, mild to medium current. The cleaning station.

Manta Alley

South Komodo, 15–30 m, mild to strong. Feeding and schooling.

Peak Months

July and August, though sightings run year round.

Keep Distance

Three metres minimum. Never swim above or chase.

No Bubbles Below

Stay low and to the side of the cleaning station.

Snorkellers Too

Makassar is shallow enough to snorkel over.
